Taxi Tariffs!

Taxis are part of the  public system of transport. They thus operate under the onus of conveyance and strictly regulated tariffs. The obligation to transport and the regulated tariff for Frankfurt´s taxis applies, without exception, to the area defined as the Rhine-Main-Area with the following boundaries:
in the north by the Wetterau district and the town of Friedberg,
in the east by the district and town of Hanau,
in the south by the district of Darmstadt and the community Goddelau-Efelden
and in the west by the district and city of Wiesbaden.

This means that within the above area every taxi tour has a defined price. Thus the fares cannot be, as happens in other European metropolises, be arbitrarily calculated by the taxi entrepreneurs or drivers.

The magistrate of the city of Frankfurt sets and publishes the taxi tariff. Depending on the rise in the cost of living the taxi tariff is, on average, adjusted every three years. An abbreviated version of the tariff must be clearly visible in all of Frankfurt´s taxis.
According to the taxi tariff statute in force, the following prices are valid:

In vehicles licensed for the conveyance of more than four persons, a surcharge of 5,10 € will be applied if more than four persons are conveyed simultaneously. This surcharge is not included in the fare shown by the meter at the end of the tour – it is shown separately by the supplementary meter. Should a tour have an objective beyond the area of onus of conveyance, the freely negotiable price for the conveyance must be agreed to with the taxi driver before beginning the tour. The taxi driver must inform the customer that the desired objective lies outside the area of onus of conveyance before commencing with the tour. Should no agreement be negotiated the taxi tariff statute will be used for the final accounting.
